My Journey to the Summit of Bjelasica
When I visited Biogradska Gora National Park in Montenegro, I had no idea it would lead me to one of the most exhilarating adventures of my life — climbing Mount Bjelasica. The decision to ascend this mountain came spontaneously, inspired by the beauty of the surrounding nature and the desire to see the park from a bird’s-eye view.

The ascent proved to be a challenging task and took almost the entire day. The path upward was quite difficult, but each step brought me closer to the goal and revealed increasingly impressive views. The trail led through a dense beech forest, where the air was filled with freshness and the aroma of foliage. Then the route passed through picturesque alpine meadows, dotted with various mountain flowers. The final stage of the journey went over rocky slopes, where each step required caution and attention.

When I reached the summit, all the difficulties of the journey were instantly forgotten. The view that opened up before me was truly breathtaking. From a bird’s-eye view, the entire Biogradska Gora park lay spread out below. Lake Biograd, which seemed huge from below, looked like a small blue spot among the greenery from up here. As far as the eye could see, an endless sea of forest stretched out, transitioning into the soft, rounded peaks of neighboring mountains. The contrasts were especially impressive: the dark green of coniferous forests, the light green of beech groves, and the bright spots of alpine meadows created an amazing mosaic of colors.

I spent more than an hour at the summit, unable to tear myself away from this majestic panorama. I tried to capture the beauty in photographs, but I realized that no pictures could convey the full grandeur of the view. The feeling of space and freedom that enveloped me at the summit was particularly impressive.

The descent from the mountain turned out to be easier than the ascent, but no less interesting. I had time to take a closer look at the surrounding nature. Along the way, I saw many beautiful places: crystal-clear mountain streams, beautiful meadows dotted with bright flowers, among which gentians and edelweiss especially stood out. The diversity of Bjelasica’s flora is astounding — it seems you can encounter all the plant species characteristic of the Balkans here.

This hike became one of the brightest impressions of my journey through Montenegro. It reminded me of the importance of sometimes stepping out of our comfort zone and challenging ourselves. It’s in such moments that we feel truly alive and free.
